Bio

Jimmy Christmas is an accomplished leader with experience in program development, clinical services, state and

federal compliance, risk management, strategic planning, operations, talent management, and fiscal management.

He is currently the Founder and CEO of a family of behavioral health organizations that include: River City

Comprehensive Counseling Services, River City Integrative Counseling, and Staunton Treatment Center. Founded in

2008, River City’s programs and services include Crisis Stabilization, Intensive In-Home Services, Mental Health Skill

Building, and Veteran’s Employment Program.

 

River City Integrative Counseling is the outpatient practice arm and provides individual, group and family therapy, as well as specialized services for VASAP, DJJ and other providers. In 2016, River City added Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) in an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) in Hanover, Virginia and in January 2018 opened another OTP in Staunton, Virginia under the banner of Staunton Treatment Center. Despite a busy schedule, Jimmy continues to see patients for therapy, provides clinical supervision and field instruction to other professionals, and is available as a consultant to families and other professionals.

Drug Court, Rubicon, Family Counseling Center for Recovery, and Insight Physicians.

Licenses and Certifications: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC),

200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist (ADS), and Mindful Yoga Therapist

(MYT).

Teaching

Jimmy served as adjunct faculty and field instructor for VCU’s School of Social Work for 15 years. RiverCity continues to provide field experiences for VCU, James Madison, Capella, Liberty, Baylor, William and Mary, and J. Sargent Reynolds, and a host of other institutions of higher learning.

 

Boards, Committees and Workgroups: Jimmy is currently engaged with the following workgroups, committees, and

boards: RAMS in Recovery, Metro Richmond Behavioral Health Innovation Collaborative, the Ujima Foundation and

Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR).

Therapy Practice: Jimmy utilizes the following strategies to bring about healing and wellness for individuals, groups

and families: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindful Yoga Therapy (MYT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Mindful Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and many other strengths-based therapies.

 

Personal

Jimmy loves spending time with his Wife of 19 years, three adult children, three grandchildren, a host of

family and friends and the family’s one 9y/o cat named “Yumi.” He loves the “Family” vacations to “the Beach” or

Disney World, and anything in NYC. Jimmy has been a runner, martial artist and golfer for over 25 years, as well as

being an avid reader of Stephen King novels. As a presenter, Jimmy utilizes the many stories that he has heard from

other humans and non-humans at every crosswalk and integrates them with his own to create healing experiences

for others and himself.
