About Us

River City Integrative Counseling (RCIC) was founded in 2015 to provide a continuum of Integrative Behavioral Health Care for individuals in the Central Virginia region. RCIC is the outpatient affiliate of River City Comprehensive Counseling Services, providing a constellation of integrative behavioral health programs that include Individual and Group Mental Health Therapy for psychiatric and substance use issues, Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program (ADTP), Opioid Informed Treatment, Family Reunification, and Relapse Prevention. In early 2019, River City began offering tele-health via Doxy.me.

Outpatient therapy can benefit individuals with a variety of mental, emotional, and behavioral health conditions, ranging from mild to severe. Our practice manager will help place you with a therapist that specializes in your particular needs, and from there you will collaboratively develop goals and a treatment plan to meet those goals. Our therapists are trained in a variety of methods including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

Therapy sessions can be for an individual, couples, or families. Many of our clients find group therapy to be beneficial as well. RCIC offers a variety of groups that can be attended along with individual therapy or as a standalone service. If it is determined by you and your therapist that medication would assist in your treatment plan, you will be referred to a psychiatrist or other prescribing physician who will work closely with your therapist to provide comprehensive treatment.

Our outpatient practice is designed to (1) assess and provide immediate treatment to reduce and/or resolve the presenting issue, behavioral health, and/or psychosocial crises that patients are experiencing; (2) develop a patient-centered treatment plan that provides the best level of care to fit the patient needs; and (3) professionally coordinate the patient’s continuing care so that they can achieve long-term stability.

We know that individuals who have behavioral and/or mental health issues are at a higher risk of preventable chronic illnesses like high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Such conditions are aggravated by poor health habits like lack of physical activity, poor nutrition, smoking, and substance abuse. Often these individuals do not obtain or have adequate access to a primary care physician. At RCIC, we believe and practice integrative behavioral health care. We help connect patients to an array of primary care physicians who can monitor their health, follow their progress, help them lead healthier, lives and avoid the complications from unmanaged chronic diseases. This greatly enhances any patient’s treatment outcomes and quality of life.
